Did the “West Wing” Writers Have a Crystal Ball?
Is Barack Obama mimicking Matt Santos,(clickto watch the clip) handsome, idealistic, minority candidate? No. The other way around. Four years ago, the West Wing writers consulted with David Axelrod, who was handling the Senate campaign of up and coming Barack Obama.
Santos was competing against politically savvy VP, Bob Russell. Whoever won the nomination had to face the ever-popular Arnold Vinnick (not fashioned after McCain, but he might as well have been ). End result: brokered convention. We think you know how it all turned out.
