Baucus Confident About Health Bill
The very prospect of healthcare reform seemed at peril last week, when the more moderate of two public option bills was defeated in the Senate Finance Committee. But according to a recent article in the Washington Post, Baucus now believes he has the capability to pass “a package of reforms that would extend coverage to more than 30 million Americans who lack insurance.”
The bill will not be voted out of committee until sometime next week, but once it is it will “likely to form the foundation of a compromise bill that Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) hopes to craft next week.”
Unfortunately, there is not a safe market call to make on this until the bill is on the floor in that form. We will be covering these developments to provide more market-based analysis as the bill takes shape.
