Messy, Messy Details
Obama’s healthcare plan apparently costs $1.6 trillion, not the 1 trillion he indicated on the fifteenth, prompting Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus to try and slim down that number by about $600 billion. Baucus claims that his healthcare reform can be paid for entirely with “tax increases, spending cuts and other offsets” – which is interesting because Obama did not really mention tax increases last week.
Such talk will certainly provoke some opposition from the right, which will likely delay any definite legislation. And as statesmen continue to debate every aspect of healthcare reform to try and get this sorted out, there is still no end in sight.
