Obama’s Issue with Public Funding
Obama is the first candidate in about forty years to forego public financing. His campaign says that it’s part of Obama’s new way of doing things, i.e. small donors giving ordinary amounts to fuel the campaign – no lobbyists or special interest groups.
But his opponents are trying to spin it as a broken promise. Obama claimed he would use the public financing system if McCain was going to. But every indication leads many to believe McCain will indeed participate in the system in the fall and yet Obama still refuses.
