Corporations and Obama
I read through an analysis of the Obama campaign’s economics plan by a UBS Investment Research team earlier today.
Interestingly enough, they made a link between Obama’s “Fix Our Health Care Crisis” plan and potential profits for large corporations. The idea, in general, would be that smaller businesses would have an especially hard time competing against large corporations – if all businesses were required to have healthcare insurance plans. In theory, this is true – especially in large corporations where healthcare becomes cheaper when more people are involved.
But it’s not simple enough to say that Obama would be good for big business. His plan completely ignores the idea of cutting the Corporate Tax Rate. Also, the Obama plan focuses some energy into raising taxes for the wealthy Americans. Therefore, those at the top of the corporate ladder may not only be hit with the Corporate Tax Rate (2nd highest in the world), but personally with taxes on the affluent.
This issue also prompts the question of what specific corporations could be in a sticky spot if they, as of this day, do not meet Obama’s healthcare standards. I will update as soon as I find more information on that matter.
