Obama Leaving Coal in the Dirt
Senator Barack Obama left the Coal to Liquid (CTL) method out of the Low-Carbon Fuel Initiative when he presented it to the Senate on Thursday. This is strange considering Illinois is up to its elbows in coal, Rentech and Peabody are planning to build a CTL plant there now.
Now potential CTL providers, like Syntroleum(SYNM), Los Angeles’ Rentech(RTK) and South Africa’s Sasol (SSL), as well as coal producers such as Arch Coal (ACI), Peabody Energy (BTU), Consol Energy (CNX) and Massey Energy (MEE), could be hurt by Obama’s omission of the alternative energy idea from his initative, along with the rest of the coal industry.
TheStreet.com goes in depth with the story here, and it can also be found at this link in the Los Angeles Times.
